Caring for your Keratin Smoothing Treatment

Human hair naturally has keratin protein but after pollution, heating elements and sulfates from shampoos, your natural keratin gets stripped from your hair.  The keratin treatment is derived from lamb's wool, which is the closest to human keratin that they have found.  It is very important to follow these rules for 72 hours when you are home to properly care for your keratin.

  • DO NOT GET ANY MOISTURE ON YOUR HAIR FOR 72 HOURS
  • WEAR A SHOWER CAP WHILE IN THE SHOWER, WASHING YOUR FACE OR WHILE DOING ANYTHING AT ALL THAT INVOLVES WATER FOR 72 HOURS
  • WEAR HAIR DOWN, DO NOT USE PINS, CLIPS, PONYTAIL HOLDERS OR SUNGLASSES TO HOLD HAIR BACK FOR 72 HOURS
  • WITHIN THE 72 HOURS, IF HAIR GETS WET, BLOW DRY IMMEDIATELY AND GO OVER LIGHTLY WITH A FLAT IRON ON LOW HEAT SETTING
  • USE THE SULFATE AND SODIUM CHLORIDE FREE SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER SUGGESTED BY YOUR STYLIST

WHEN SWIMMING IN CHLORINE, BEFORE YOU GET IN, WET YOUR HAIR AND APPLY CONDITIONER. WASH HAIR IMMEDIATELY AFTER SWIMMING.  TRY TO AVOID SALT WATER IN YOUR HAIR BECAUSE IT COUNTERACTS THE KERATIN TREATMENT.  WEARING A SWIM CAP IS FAVORED.

The Right Way to Go From Dark to Light Hair

Ever gotten the urge to take your dark locks lighter ? Yeah, us too. But truth be told, it’s not as quick or easy as you think it may be.

Many people think that it’s easy to go light is because we only tend to notice major changes.  The process doesn’t happen magically. It takes hours and sometimes several sessions in your colorist’s chair. But if you want to go from dark to light, it can be done. It just takes patience and time—a lot of time.

If you have virgin hair that’s never been colored, the process will require quite a bit of work. It’s best to go slow because your hair can become damaged if you are try to get it too light right away. On average, you’ll need about three to four visits before you start to see a drastic change. Consider this the rule of thumb when majorly coloring your hair: The more you change it, the more damage that will incur, and the faster you change it, the more damage you’ll do to your hair.

Because most of us do color our hair for whatever reason, going from dark to light on colored hair becomes a super tricky process. You’re in unchartered territory. There’s a lot of science behind hair color. With colored hair, you never know how the hair will react and you will be limited by the integrity of the hair, which means that at a certain point, if you continue to lighten it to the point that the hair becomes compromised, it will break.  While it’s difficult to gauge what point that is, treatments like Olaplex are often added to the color to restore the integrity and pH levels of the hair.

Remember...It just takes patience and time!
